Pierre Cordier
Pierre Cordier, a Belgian artist born January 1933, was thought to be one of the first chemigram photographers. In 1956 Cordier discovered that using nail varnish on photographic paper created an unusual type of photo which he later decided to call the "chemigram". Cordier stated that his chemigram "combined the physics of painting (varnish, oil, wax) and the chemistry of photography (photosensitive emulsion, developer, and fixer), without the use of a camera or enlarger, and in full light". Cordier then went on to produce many chemigrams as well as photographic self-portraits. Below are a few pieces of Pierre Cordier's work. |
